Chess club is run at Tuesday lunch between 1.20-1.45. All students may attend from beginners to more experienced players. The purpose of the club is to teach and encourage students to develop their chess capabilities. Research has shown that playing chess on a regular basis increases mathematical understanding in primary school students by about 9%.

Nulsen Primary School have won the annual EACS Chess Congress on two occasions, and been runners up once. We regularly provide two teams in the competition, the only school in the district that does this on a regular basis. We’ve had several students over the years that have been undefeated throughout the round robin format of seven games or more.
