The Little Yorgas Program is a culturally inclusive program for Aboriginal girls in Years 3–6 at Nulsen Primary School, located on Nyungar Country in Esperance. The name “Yorga” means woman in Nyungar language, reflecting the program’s focus on supporting our young girls as they grow in confidence, identity, and strength.

The program is designed to build cultural connection, wellbeing, self-esteem, and a strong sense of belonging, while supporting students to engage positively with school and their community.

In 2026, Little Yorgas will run four sessions a term. All Aboriginal girls in Years 3–6 will come together as one group. Sessions are held during the school day from 12:00–1:30pm, with food provided to ensure students feel comfortable and supported.

Each term follows a consistent structure, combining both cultural and school-led experiences. Two sessions are delivered through the Tjaltjraak ILA Program, facilitated by Candy Smith, with a focus on cultural identity, connection to Country, leadership, and wellbeing. The remaining sessions are coordinated by our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEOs), Karen and BB, and may include excursions, guest presenters, or activities shaped by student voice and emerging needs.

Little Yorgas provides a safe and supportive space where students can express themselves, strengthen their identity, and build positive connections with peers, staff, and the wider community. The program aims to nurture confidence, pride, and a strong sense of belonging, while encouraging ongoing engagement with school.
