KindiLink
KindiLink at Nulsen Primary School offers play-and-learn sessions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander babies and young children, together with their parents or carers. Families are supported by trained KindiLink educators, including a teacher and an Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer. KindiLink recognises parents and carers as their children’s first educators and supports them to be actively involved in their children’s learning.
Our sessions are planned in accordance with the National Quality Standard, the Early Years Learning Framework and the Abecedarian Approach Australia. Essential parts of a KindiLink session include:
Self-registration
Greetings
Acknowledgement of Country
Learning Games from the Abecedarian Approach Australia (3a)
Conversational Reading
Enriched Caregiving Routines
Indoor activities
Outdoor activities
Music time
Fruit/snack time
We begin each session with families signing in and casting a vote - for example, choosing whether they prefer the beach or the park. Families then head indoors, where the children register to show that they are at KindiLink. Families can choose from Learning Games and a variety of other activities around the room. Parents and carers are encouraged to engage with their children through play and lots of conversation. Weather permitting, we then head outside for Conversational Reading, Learning Games and outdoor activities. We return to the KindiLink room for our Acknowledgement of Country, count and discuss the vote, enjoy fruit or a snack, dance and sing along to music, and finish by saying goodbye.
